Opened in September 1998 our new
village hall is the result of many years fund raising and planning to
achieve a dual use facility for Bayton Village.
Its dual use because the
spacious sports hall doubles as the Bayton School Gym and lunch area
during term time and is also used by the school for carol services,
concerts and plays.
The hall also boasts a large
meeting room, used also for private parties, weddings, family
celebrations as well as Village groups and Church functions. We have
a large kitchen with hatch access to both halls and toilet areas
which have seperate disabled facilities. The main hall has an
induction loop for those with impared hearing and there are braille
markers around the hall. The meeting room has video equipment for
cinema evenings or for presentations.
The hall is ajacent to the
school playground, recreation ground and church. The land had been
donated by Mrs Gurny from Shakenhurst who was a great benifactrice to
the village. She looked towards providing amenities for the
recreation for the children of Bayton and the Village Hall Committee,
which is a registered charity, administers the use of the land and
hall in accordance with the terms of her covenant.
The new village hall cost some
200 thousand pounds and was paid for by grants from 20th Century
Halls, Action with Communities in Rural England and local
fundraising. A further grant from Doostep Greens has resulted in the
upgrading of the recreation ground to provide a hard playing space,
five a side pitch, walkways, seats, willow shelters and carvings as
well as improved lighting.
