For the past few years, since the new village hall was built, Bayton
has held a Christmas meal open to any parishioners over the age of 60
on a first come first served basis for the 40 or so places. The meal
which is free is a way of saying "thank you" to many of those who
helped making the building a reality and to create a "get together" for
the villagers. In November the village volunteers who organise
the event hold a bring and buy sale to raise funds. Many donations of
food and wine are made and there?s no shortage of people volunteering
to be waiters and cooks for what has proved to be a very successful
event. In the couple of days before the meal there?s
a working party to decorate the hall and get the local produce
prepared. The food is cooked at home and in the hour before the meal is
returned to the hall for final preparation and temperature checking
before being put in the hot cupboards. Guests arrive
at around noon for a glass or two of sherry and after grace has been
said sit down to a full Christmas dinner with wine, coffee and mints.
After eating Bayton School puts on their annual nativity play in the
sports hall for the guests whilst the volunteers sit down to their
Christmas lunch before helping the guests home and clearing up the
hall.

The annual village fete is held on the second Saturday in July at the Village recreation ground, School Playground and Village Hall. Monies raised go to support the
Church funds. There are many traditional attractions,
local bands, music and dance by pupils of Bayton school, a bouncy
castle, skittles, coconut shy, putting, tombola and
refreshments.

 The recreation
ground at Bayton is administered by the Village Hall committee and with
the aid of a Doorstep Greens grant has been rebuit following a parish
wide consultation.
New facilities include a hard
play area for skateboards and cycle training, there's low level access
lighting, five-a-side football pitch, wood carvings and willow shelter
as well as new paths, wild flowers and shubs with new seats. A purpose
built barbeque is also planned.
The recreation ground
is between the village hall and church and apart from recreation will
provide a venue for bigger village outdoor events such as the Church
Fete.
